12,000 sets of kids’ pajamas and robes produced by Joules USA have been recalled due to a risk of burn injuries. A total of 44 styles are included in the recall, making it difficult for parents to determine if they need to take action.
Joules USA issued this recall for 44 styles of children’s pajamas and robes sold between November 2017 and December 2019. The clothing was sold at children’s boutiques as well as online and cost anywhere from $20 to $70.
According to the official announcement from Joules USA, “This recall involves children’s nightgowns, robes, traditional styled two-piece sets and both long-sleeve and short-sleeve two-piece pajama sets. The recalled sleepwear garments were available in multiple prints and in sizes 1 through 12.”
Thankfully, no injuries have been reported in connection with this recall. However, when it comes to children’s safety, you can’t be too careful.
If you think you might have purchased one of the recalled items, check the label at the neck for the following codes on the care label inside the garment:
The manufacturer and the CPSC recommend that you immediately stop letting your children wear any of the recalled pajamas and robes. Contact Joules USA to get a free return label and a full refund.
The United States has very strict standards regarding children’s sleepwear and flammability. According to the Consumer Product Safety Commission: “To protect children from burns, these rules require that children’s sleepwear must be flame resistant and self-extinguish if a flame from a candle, match, lighter or a similar item causes it to catch fire.”
To meet the federal standards, children’s sleepwear must either pass a flammability test or be “tight-fitting” so that there’s less risk of, for example, accidentally knocking over a candle. If a garment fails to meet these standards, it must be pulled from the market.
