Lays Chips Recalled for “Serious” and “Life-Threatening” Mistake

A brand of Lays potato chips has been recalled due to a major oversight that resulted in a bag of Wavy Lays Potato Chips containing milk-based ingredients. These ingredients weren’t disclosed on the bag, which is a huge problem: many people have extreme sensitivity to milk-based products and avoid them on purpose. Believe it or not, Lays potato chips are one of the very few vegan snack foods!

“Those with an allergy or severe sensitivity to milk run the risk of a serious or life-threatening allergic reaction if they consume product contained inside the recalled bags,” Lays wrote in the official recall notice.

The recall was comparatively very small. Only 31 bags of affected chips needed to be recalled, and they were only distributed in South Carolina, North Carolina, and Virginia, making this essentially a blip on Frito-Lay’s radar. However, such an oversight could have been potentially lethal for consumers, making this a scary episode for the snack food manufacturer.
