130,000 pounds of Healthy Choice Chicken Power Bowls were recalled by Conagra Foods. Why? Because the microwave dinners might contain rocks!
According to the USDA notice on this recall, the products could “contain extraneous material, specifically small rocks.” Do we even have to get into the reasons why having small rocks in your food is a bad thing? Besides being unsanitary, the “extraneous material” could also be a choking hazard or cause someone to break a tooth.
The USDA designated this as a Class 1 recall. “[T]his is a health hazard situation where there is a reasonable probability that the use of the product will cause serious, adverse health consequences or death,” the agency advised.
The issue was discovered thanks to consumers complaining about finding rocks in their food. Luckily, no injuries or illnesses have yet been linked to the meals. However, it is vitally important that you do not consume these products.
Check your freezer to make sure you did not purchase any Healthy Choice Power Bowls in the Chicken Feta & Faro flavor.
The products have the label code “P115” and a best-by date of October, 19 2020. Here is the complete label data (including the French label exported to Canada):
- 9.5-oz. cartons containing “Healthy Choice POWER BOWLS Chicken Feta & Farro” with lot code 5006002320, UPC code 072655001800 and a best by date of 10/19/2020 on the label.
- 9.5-oz. cartons containing “Healthy Choice POWER BOWLS Chicken Feta & Farro, BOILS ÈNERGIE Poulet feta et épeautre” with lot code 5006002320, UPC code 072655003026 and a best by date of 10/19/2020 on the label.
These products were all produced on January 23, 2020. Whatever happened that day, it resulted in small rocks getting mixed into the blend of “Pulled All Natural Chicken Breast with Chickpeas and Vegetables served on top of Farro with a Garlic Oregano Sauce and topped with Feta Cheese.”
The Power Bowls are served inside a recycled, plant-based fiber bowl. They have a black cardboard wrapper with a close-up photograph of the bowl’s contents.
