Benefiber Lots Recalled, Could Contain Plastic Pieces

Multiple lots of Benefiber Prebiotic Fiber Supplement powder could pose a danger to consumers. Manufacturer GSK Consumer Healthcare announced a recall of their products because the packages could contain plastic pieces or shavings from faulty bottle caps.

What Happened?

GSK Consumer Healthcare received a customer complaint about small green pieces of plastic inside the container of fiber powder. The company determined that there could be shavings from the bottle caps inside the products. These small plastic shards could pose a serious health risk if accidentally swallowed.

According to the manufacturer, “There is a potential risk of choking or physical injury to the soft tissues of the mouth or gastrointestinal tract of a consumer using the product who may not see a broken piece or shaving of plastic cap.”

Recall Details

This recall is for the Benefiber Prebiotic Fiber Supplement powder and the Benefiber Prebiotic Healthy Shape Fiber Supplement powder. The products are packaged in curved plastic bottles with colorful white or green labels and green plastic caps. Both packages are 500 g(17.6 OZ).

What Should You Do Next?

GSK Consumer Healthcare advises that you check any bottles of Benefiber you bought in the last six months to see if they are part of the recalled lots. If your product is part of the recall, stop taking it immediately.

“Consumers should contact their physician or healthcare provider if they have experienced any problems that may be related to taking or using this product,” the manufacturer advised in a written statement. GSK Consumer Health is cooperating with the U.S. Food and Drug Administration to keep customers safe and informed.
